Buckets — sized by capacity standard, not by eye

The volume of a bucket is described by the two metrics: struck capacity, the amount in the bucket when the material level with the strike plane; heaped capacity, the total volume if you’ve piled up material above that struck line. Bucket capacity is defined in either the standard 1:1 excavator and backhoe standards (at the angle of repose), or the 1:2 loader standard. If a dealer rates a bucket according to the “wrong” angle, he’ll mislead your customer by implying your customer can carry more volume. The last factor that completes the picture is fill factor; moist loam, for instance, can fill a bucket to more than 100% of its rated heap, while dry blasted rock falls short. ISO 7541 / SAE J296 provides struck and heaped capacities with clear, objective reporting, making sure you’re bidding what the machine can really haul. Hydraulic breakers — match the energy, then read the fine print

A hydraulic breaker must be matched to the carrier, and advertised impact-energy classes are not always measured the same way. The Association of Equipment Manufacturers and its Mounted Breaker Manufacturers Bureau define a certified impact-energy test, but not every supplier uses that benchmark. When we quote breakers for concrete, asphalt, quarrying or trenching, we confirm carrier flow, working pressure, operating weight, tool steel, hose and nitrogen requirements. At least two verification checks should accompany any meaningful comparison. First, breaker impact classes should be reviewed against measured or supplier-documented data instead of relying only on marketing labels.
