Why importers source used Doosan excavators from China — and what stalls deals
A used Doosan excavator is a sure thing: the DX and prior DH series machines are rugged workhorse crawler and mini excavators equipped with trusted Doosan diesels and hydraulics. Well-maintained machines continue earning on jobsites long after they rolled off the assembly line. For importers and distributors, the play is obvious: buy a solid, used machine, get it landed, and resupply your market - or rent it - with a respectable markup over a new unit's cost.
The machine is rarely the issue: the buying process is.
Every importer we deal with flags the same 3 bottlenecks:
- First, machine risk: Counterfeit hour meters & paint jobs can conceal from hundreds to thousands of hours.
- Second, opaque pricing: Most vendors quote “call for price”, denying buyers any way to model landed cost.
- Third, export snags: One mislabeled EPA sticker can cost weeks & a significant chunk of an order in customs holds, a painful outcome experienced by one client when a container was significantly delayed.
Our model removes these three pain points.
Every machine is inspected & rated before we ask for payment, with video, photo evidence & verified serial & running hour information provided. Upfront price range estimates are presented on all machines, replacing “call for price”. We provide the export documentation pack - the bill of lading, certificate of origin & all necessary EPA and compliance label, engine designation plates and any required destination compliance paperwork. Read below how this works.
Doosan Excavators for Sale — DX & DH Series Models & How to Choose
Doosan builds a full ladder of excavators, from sub-6-tonne mini excavators up to 50-tonne heavy crawler machines, plus wheeled excavators for road and utility work. We regularly source the more common Doosan, DEVELON, and mini excavator models below, and can match a specific year of manufacture — a 2019 Doosan DX225, or a newer 2022 unit, for example — and a target running-hours figure on request.
| Model | Class | Operating weight | Engine / power | Typical work |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DX55 | Mini | ~5.5 t | ~48.8 hp, Doosan diesel | Urban sites, landscaping, utilities |
| DX60 | Mini | ~6 t | Doosan diesel | Confined-space, site prep |
| DX140LCR | Mid (reduced-tail) | ~13.9 t | DL06 family | Roadside, reduced-swing jobs |
| DX225LC | Standard (22 t) | 47,399 lb / 21,500 kg | 148 hp net, DL06 5.9 L | General excavation, trenching |
| DX300LC | Large (~34 t) | ~34 t | DL08 / Scania DC09 (export) | Heavy excavation, roadwork |
| DX340LC | Large | ~33.8 t | DL08 family | Earthmoving, quarry support |
| DX350LC-5 | Heavy | ~38 t class | DL08 family | Mining, large-scale earthmoving |
How to read this for procurement: the DX225LC is the volume seller – a 22 tonne crawler excavator with a digging depth over 6m, and default 0.99 m digging bucket – because it hits the most broad left side of general build out. To the left of it the DX55 and DX60 mini excavators move volume to rental fleets and close urban build out, competing first against Yanmar and Kubota minis; over to the right side the DX300LC and DX340LC takes heavy demolition and bulk earthmoving. Most machines come with an auxiliary-hydraulics circuit (2-way pipework) for a breaker or quick coupler, encapsulated ROPS cab, and serviceable rubber tracks or steel undercarriage depending on configuration. Where a machine carries a hydraulic thumb, quick-attach coupler, or front blade, we list it clearly.
| If your buyers need… | Recommended class | Models | Indicative used price band (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compact / rental / urban | Mini, 5.5–6 t | DX55, DX60 | $9,000 – $45,000 |
| Reduced-swing roadside | Mid, ~14 t | DX140LCR | $25,000 – $60,000 |
| General construction (best all-round) | Standard, 22 t | DX225LC | $30,000 – $70,000 |
| Heavy excavation / earthmoving | Large, 30–34 t | DX300LC, DX340LC | $45,000 – $110,000 |
Price bands are indicative for planning purposes and are revised with year of manufacture, hours run, and condition grade; ask for a live quote on a particular machine.
Used Doosan vs. New — and vs. other brands: value & support continuity
The case for used is a cost case – here are the figures not normally present in a technical specification. A new DX55-class mini excavator at retail stands $57,000-$90,000, and climbs well past that for large crawler machines. A solid used DX225LC in the 22 tonne class trades in the vicinity of a high-$60,000s for a low-hour 2016-oriented example, and much less for older stock – hence why a wholesaler can create margin on used inventory in a way new ships do not.
| Factor | New excavator | Inspected used Doosan (our supply) |
|---|---|---|
| Entry price (22 t class) | Six figures | ~$30k–$70k by year/hours |
| Lead time | Factory order / queue | In stock, ships in ~weeks |
| Depreciation curve | Steepest in first years | Already absorbed by first owner |
| Condition certainty | Known (new) | Graded + photo/video inspection report |
| Parts & support | Dealer network | DEVELON / Hyundai Genuine network (see below) |
Across rival brands - Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, Volvo, Hyundai, and John Deere - Doosan's offer has always been comparable digging power and fuel economy at a lower price of acquisition, and this carries into the used market – where Doosan machines generally undercut comparable Cat and Komatsu machines. Fuel economy is genuine but specific to a given model: Doosan's D-ECOPOWER virtual bleed-off hydraulic system increases fuel efficiency on LC-5 generation ships by roughly 10% over older LC-3, and larger increases are supposed with newer offerings.
Doosan → DEVELON: what it means for a used buyer
In 2023 Doosan Construction Equipment was rebranded DEVELON (announced January 2023, debuted at CONEXPO that March) following Doosan Infracore's change to HD Hyundai in 2021. Those platforms are unchanged, supported through the Hyundai Genuine group with its network of dealers and parts-supply channels. For a used buyer that counts in one way: a used Doosan is no orphan brand. Parts, service literature, and dealer support carry on for DX-series machines under DEVELON, so a 2016 DX225LC you import today is still a valid machine.
Inspection & refurbishment — how every machine is graded
Buyer roles: EN + MGR These are the where most used-excavator deals fall apart, which means they're where we work the hardest. This isn't a theoretical risk. One experienced buyer even warned us that, in general, we "really gotta doubt any hour meter below 1k." Not surprisingly, we’ve also seen hour-meter rigging, serial-tag switching, and other deceptions at premium Western auctions, with one buyer telling us a "2021" sold by a huge auction firm had a fake serial tag and a manipulated meter. The problem of condition is not unique to China-it’s worldwide. Our answer is a verifiable inspection report that happens before funds change hands.
Before the machines are offered to you, the team goes through a set inspection checklist which is then logged and captured with both pictures and a walk-round video:
Engine & emissions
cold-start; smoke; oil, coolant, fuel leaks; service history of the diesel engine; EPA/Tier engine-family label
Hydraulics
cylinder/pump condition; drift test; hose; auxiliary-hydraulics / two-way piping system
Under-carriage
sprocket & wheel, rollers, idlers, grouser & rubber-track wearing parts - arguably the most expensive thing to get wrong
Hours & identity
ECU hour readout cross checked with wear, serial number and year of manufacture verified against records
Structure & cab
condition of boom, arm & digging bucket, enclosed cab, glass, rear-view camera and controls (operation)
We then give it a simple condition grade of ‘Ready for work’, ‘minor recondition’ or ‘project’ and rebuild it to your ordered specification which could include simple mechanical service and paint through to a full rebuild. you receive the report and media pack pre-ship, support 3rd party inspection and escrows; because, in the words of buyers; “ an inspection is cheaper than fixing one failed hydraulic cylinder”
We would rather lose a sale than ship a machine with a rolled-back meter. Every unit goes through the same checklist, and the buyer sees the undercarriage and a cold-start on video before they wire a deposit — that is the only way trust survives a 10,000-kilometre shipment.

Export logistics — shipping used excavators worldwide
Buyer personas: PROC (primary), MGR Logistics are more than delivery: We’ll do whatever it takes to ensure container isn’t locked at the docks - you could put a machine on for free, it won’t do you much good stuck in customs. Here’s what really dictates your delivery.
| Stage | What we handle |
|---|---|
| Loading method | 40-ft container for ≤~6–7 t minis; RoRo / breakbulk for crawler machines |
| Incoterms | FOB or CIF — the two standard sea-freight terms from China; we quote both so you control freight exposure |
| Documents | Bill of lading, certificate of origin, commercial invoice & packing list |
| Compliance labels | EPA engine-family label (US), CE marking (EU) verified before loading |
| Destinations | Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America regularly served |
Fact 1: SIZE… dictates process - The biggest single mini excavator we can move inside a single 40ft is about 6-7 tonnes, larger models go on roll-on / roll-off or break bulk.
Fact 2: DOCUMENTS…dictate access - Of all reasons a previously-excavator-owned, now resold, machine hits a wall with customs, the single biggest reason is either no engine-emissions label or a wrong one - it's very rarely the machine itself.
Plan landed cost, not just unit price
As a planning reference, an average 40-ft. ocean move from China costs in the vicinity of $3,000-$4,000 in ocean freight, plus customs brokerage and inland delivery at destination — and in many markets there is no import duty on excavators, though you must verify your own tariff code. Budget the complete landed cost with us in advance so the lowest unit price doesn't become the costliest delivery.
From a single inspected unit to mixed-fleet bulk orders — wholesale pricing scales with volume, and one quote covers machine, inspection, and freight.
Pricing & procurement — used-price guidance, bulk/MOQ & ordering
Buyer roles: PROC (core) MGR (budget). Our pricing gives honest ranges instead of "call for pricing," because a distributor can't plan a business on a mystery number. As a reference, used Doosan excavators move generally in the ranges shown earlier - mini DX55/DX60 from around $9,000, standard DX225LC in the $30,000–$70,000 range, and larger DX300LC/DX340LC machines higher — with the actual number determined by year of manufacture, operating hours, attachments, and condition category.
For importers and distributors, the true control is purchasing at volume. We supply single units for buyers exploring a market, and we consolidate mixed-model container loads for established distributors - multiple minis in one 40-ft. container, or a managed program of crawler machines by Ro-Ro. Payment is arranged via the inspection-and-escrow process described above, and we provide common wear parts and source attachments — buckets, hydraulic breakers, quick couplers, grapples — along with the machines so your customers receive a complete working package, not just iron.

Frequently asked questions
The 22-tonne DX225LC is the volume choice for general construction, the DX140LCR popular for low-tail-swing roadside work, and the DX300LC and DX340LC used for high-volume earthmoving. In mini excavators, the DX55 and DX60 are most popular with rental contractors and urban clients. We are able to source any of these, as well as previous DH-series model, using our worldwide sources.
Hours alone aren't a good guide — a 6,000-hour machine with extensive service records and a good undercarriage is a better purchase than a "950-hour" unit with no history and a worn track chain. That's why we verify the hour meter reading against actual wear and provide service records when we have them, instead of quoting an hours number as if it were a guarantee. Always judge a used excavator based on documented condition, not the meter alone.
Yes. Doosan Construction Equipment was rebranded DEVELON in 2023 under HD Hyundai's Hyundai Genuine group. Both are the same platforms, and parts and service support for DX-series excavators continues through the DEVELON network — so a used Doosan you purchase today remains a supported machine.
Inspect the engine for leaks and cold-start smoke, test the hydraulics for cylinder drift, and examine the undercarriage - track chain, rollers, and grousers - carefully, as this is the most expensive system to replace. Confirm the hour meter reading against wear, and verify the serial number against records. Since buyers "have zero recourse for a refund" once they pay, demand documented inspections, photo/video proof, and the ability to use an escrow or third-party inspection — all of which we include as standard.
Yes. mini excavators of up to about 6-7 tonnes ship in 40-ft containers; larger crawler machines are exported RoRo or breakbulk. We supply regularly into Africa, South-East Asia, the Middle East and Latin America; can price FOB or CIF; prepare all the bill of lading, certificate of origin and the EPA or CE compliance labels required by your customs authority.
As a guide to planning, the mini DX55/DX60 units start at about $9,000, standard-grade 22-tonne DX225LC units go for more around the $30,000–$70,000 range, and the big DX300LC/DX340LC units will start out higher still (year, hours, fittings and condition grade influencing price to an extent). Give us your preferred machine and budget and we’ll back you with a live quotation which will include your landed-cost options.
