effective load per pass = rated capacity × fill factor (100%)
0.20–0.50 yd³ per pass
Fill factor for Moist loam: 100–110%. Loose, free-flowing material heaps above the strike-off plane, so a pass can carry slightly more than rated.
Capacity rated per SAE J296 (1:1 heaped at the material’s angle of repose). Width and capacity ranges are class guidance, not a single fixed size.
Reality Check
Bigger is not always more productive. A wider bucket spreads the same hydraulic force across more teeth, which lowers breakout force per inch of cutting edge. In dense clay, bank material, or rock, an over-sized bucket stalls, fills partially, and slows cycle times — a narrower, properly matched bucket digs full passes faster.
